Children at feeding program

Feeding Program

The center is open for feeding on daily basis. A hot meal is provided to school going children in Kware and its environs who attend different schools. Meals are served from 12:45 to 1:30 during school days, and from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on weekends, public holidays, and school holidays.

On average, 17,000 plates of food are served every month to approximately 350 children and parents. The children are mainly aged 3 to 17 years.

The center also caters for parents living with different health conditions who are unable to leave their homes, expectant mothers in their last trimester, and lactating mothers for the first 2 months.

Holiday Programs

During school holidays, children are invited to participate in different programs according to their age groups. The children are equipped with life skills and trained in various fields such as baking, beadwork, farming, scarf mat making, and other activities.

Apart from these activities, we also have sports programs like football, handball, rope skipping, and taekwondo. Children below the age of five years enjoy coloring, drawing, and joining dots of certain patterns or words.

We also provide mentorship for class eight students during the school holidays.

Empowerment Training
Miale Ya Tumaini provides trainings to parents and guardians. They are divided into groups of 15 participants, with training occurring once every month over a period of 3 days. The curriculum is tailor-made for parents with different education levels and includes practical classes on various skills.
Parental Conversations
Parental talks are aimed at discussing various challenges experienced by parents. The talks provide a forum for parents to share their own experiences in supporting children at various stages. In these forums, parents support each other in different parenting challenges.
Home Visits
We conduct home visits to corroborate information provided by children or parents during registration. The visits provide a good opportunity to discuss family issues in their own environment and often find solutions depending on the needs. Interventions are provided to families based on these visits.
Counseling
Miale ya Tumaini conducts counseling sessions at the center. The sessions are conducted by counselors and volunteers for both parents and children. The center has also introduced peer counseling in two public schools within the community to help children cope and cooperate with other students.
